IMEC PLEXTRONICS cooperation jointly develop high-efficiency renewable organic solar cells

September 1, 08, the European independent research center IMEC nano-electronics and electronic printing equipment company Plextronics signed an agreement to cooperate for the development of organic solar cells of raw materials and inks.

Through this cooperation, IMEC Plextronics to use the patent Plexcore raw materials and inks, the development of renewable efficient organic solar cells. According to the National Energy Research Laboratory (NREL) as a test showed that, Plexcore patented technology for high-efficiency 5.9 percent.

IMEC’s target is 2010, organic multi-node the efficiency of solar cells reach 10 percent. At the same time, the company will be an average of 7 %(+/- 0.5%) to optimize the efficiency of the production process to achieve a large area of industrial manufacturing technology, solar battery life up to five years.

To achieve these objectives, high-quality, high-renewable raw materials of the business is essential. In the first stage of cooperation, IMEC will focus on Plexcore? OS, a P3HT polymer, with high flexibility and high absorption, equivalent to the spectrum of the maximum photon flux. Plexcore? OS will be the raw material after processing through the spin-coating, another form of film, carrier mobility and renewable sources of authentication. Solar cells will use the spin-coating raw materials in different film substrates for processing.

And future research will further deposition technologies, such as the large area substrate on the screen and ink-jet printing and spraying technology, Plexcore? Other raw materials and ink patents for evaluation.

IMEC solar energy project director Jef Poortmans said, “Plextronics of renewable raw materials for high efficiency of organic solar cells are of great help. Plextronics has the raw materials, ink and processing technology, we will accelerate the large area of industrial manufacturing, but also Enhance the quality of our battery  products. ”

Plextronics the CEO Andy Hannah said, “This cooperation with IMEC for Plextronics has important significance. We have been committed to the adoption of new technology and ink, so that the commercialization of organic solar cells.’s Cooperation with IMEC, we target to a more forward A step forward. “
